George Walker’s book “Chess Studies”, contained a number of games between clubs played roughly in the twenty years 1834 to 1843.  Among them were the following games played by correspondence between the Nottingham and Huddersfield clubs (game 378, on pages 70 & 71).  No date is given.  Nottingham won 2-0.

The present Huddersfield chess club dates back to 1852.  This Huddersfield Chess Club was a predecessor which fizzled out.  It predated the era of John Watkinson and Walter Parratt.

The Nottingham consulting team, or “committee”, will almost certainly have been led by Samuel Newham.  The leading player on the Huddersfield team is likely to have been Thomas Parratt, father of Walter Parratt.  Walker offers no guidance on such matters.
