1) Northern Counties Chess Union

 

Five counties contested the NCCU team championship of 1936-37, as in the previous season: Cheshire, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire.

 

In the preliminary round, Yorkshire, the reigning NCCU champions, had to play Northumberland.

At the close of play the score stood at 6½‑5½ in Yorkshire’s favour, with 4 unfinished games left for adjudication.  Yorkshire needed at least 2 points from the adjudications, as Northumberland would win from a tied score after board elimination.  The match was in fact tied, with Northumberland winning as described, as follows:
