The Sheffield Daily Telegraph of 26/10/1908 carried the following:

 

MR. BLACKBURNE AT HUDDERSFIELD

On Saturday [24/10/1908] night Mr. J. H. Blackburne the great chess master, paid a visit to the Huddersfield Club at Robinson’s Cafe, John William Street, Huddersfield, and engaged 21 opponents.  Play commenced at seven o’clock and lasted till close on 11 o’clock.  The single player [Blackburne] won 19 games and drew two, and the latter were in his favour.  The players who drew were Messrs. E. Bottomley and E. Tyas
