The Sheffield & Rotherham Independent of Monday 6th January 1890 reported match played by Bradford, away to Liverpool, on Saturday 4th January 1890, as follows:

 

BRADFORD v. LIVERPOOL

Bradford travelled to Liverpool on Saturday, and sustained a defeat at the hands of the strongest of the provincial clubs, the score being seven games to three.  There were 10 players a-side, and each organisation was short of two of its best players.  Messrs S. Ward and J. A. Guy won games for Bradford, and Messrs A. Burn, J. Cairns, S. Wellington, W. W. Rutherford, F. C. Howard, and Canon Dodd for Liverpool.  Messrs. T. A. Guy and M. Kaiser, and T. Spencer and C. Luxovitch drew.
