Played at Leeds Chess Club,

Victoria Hotel, Leeds,

on the evening of Monday, 14/02/1876,

over 6 boards, 2 games per board (time permitting).

 

Play in this match started at 7.00 p.m. and continued until 10.00 p.m., at which point they Bradford players had to depart to catch the train home.  At that point, Leeds had won 6 games, Bradford had won 3 games, and 2 games were still in progress and were abandoned.  The write-up in the Leeds Mercury of Wednesday, 16/02/1876, penned in the style of James White, expressed the view that the 2 unfinished games were both in Leeds’s favour, when they were abandoned.
