Played at Grimsby,

presumably on 04/09/1875,

over 12 boards, 2 games per board.

This was the return match to the 1875 Hull C.I. v Grimsby match.  The report in the Chess Players’ Chronicle, 1875, p.344, was much more detailed than that on the previous match.

The plan had been to play over twelve bards, so there was perhaps a last-minute hiccup, with a selected Hull player perhaps being unable to travel to Grimsby.

As it happened, Johann Jacob Löwenthal was visiting Arthur Bolland Skipworth at the time, and these two played on the top two boards for Grimsby.  It seems likely that Grimsby has never fielded such a team since!  Be that as it may, he Hull C.I. team won, as follows:

The order of games between a pair of players was not implied by the report.

The identities of the players, where discernable to the present writer, are as indicated in the lest-most and right-most columns above.  A number of members of the Iles family were in evidence at the 1851 Caistor meeting and the 1854 Caistor Meeting.
