The Chess Player’s Chronicle of 1860 gave some details of a match played between Maximilian Edward Werner of Bradford and Walter Parratt of Huddersfield.  Maximilian Edward Werner was probably Bradford’s strongest player at the time.  Walter Parratt was probably Huddersfield’s second-strongest player, being second to John Watkinson.

Fourteen games were played, with venue alternating between Bradford and Huddersfield.  Werner came out as winner, with seven wins as compared with Parratt’s five wins.  There had been only two draws.

The following game from the match was published in The Chess Player’s Chronicle, 1860, page 144.
