Huddersfield and Wakefield played a match on 31/10/1857, at Huddersfield, for a prize of a set of Staunton chessmen.

 

The Leeds Mercury of 07/11/1857, p.6, listed the players in each team (assumed here to have been in board order), and gave the results as 9 wins to Wakefield, 7 wins to Huddersfield, and two draws.  It did not, however, detail who beat, or drew, with whom.
